O trompetista Bobby Shew nasceu em 1941 em Albuquerque, New México. Foi sempre considerado um segunda linha, mas vale a pena ouvi-lo. Começou a meio dos anos 60 nas orquestras de Woody Herman e Buddy Rich. Tocou muito também nas orquestras dos shows de Las Vegas e como músico de estúdio. Fez também parte das orquestras de Louie Bellson e de Lew Tabakin. Gravou também muito como líder, e aqui toca standards em três sessões de três décadas diferentes, a duo e em quinteto. jazzmin
