Illinois Jacquet (1922-2004), saxofonista tenor, nasceu em Queens, New York, mas cresceu no Texas. No início dos anos 40 começou a tocar com Lionel Hampton e depois com Cab Calloway e Count Basie. A partir daí formou o seu próprio agrupamento e tornou-se um dos mais influentes saxofonistas tenor da sua geração.
