Max Roach (1924-2007) está seguramente entre os três melhores bateristas jazz de todos os tempos. Vindo do início do bebop percorreu todas as fases de evolução do jazz como um percursor. Roach tocou com todos os grandes do jazz, iniciando-se muito novo sob a influência de Kenny Clarke. Max Roach foi activista político e professor. Manteve-se activo e reinventivo durante mais de cinco décadas. Aqui toca standards em sessões onde gravou como líder, na fase inicial da sua carreira.
