Jazz Standards Vol.104 Ed Bickert

Ed Bickert é um guitarrista canadiano nascido em 1932. Apareceu na década de 50 e foi particularmente reconhecido no seu país natal. Frequentou a cena dos EUA onde tocou integrado em diversos grupos, tendo acompanhado, entre outros, Oscar Peterson, Rosemary Clooney, Benny Carter e Rob McConnell. Esteve particularmente activo nas décadas de 70 e 80, tendo gravado vários álbuns como leader. São desta época as sessões que apresentamos, tocando standards em duo, em trio e em quarteto.

Jazz Standards Vol.103 Joey DeFrancesco

Joey DeFrancesco nasceu em Philadelphia em 1971 e tornou-se num dos expoentes da nova geração jo jazz, trazendo de novo para a primeira linha o órgão hammond. Nascido numa família de músicos e sendo o pai dono dum clube de jazz, Joey começou a tocar quase desde o berço. Com 17 já actuava com Miles Davis e no ano seguinte já tinha contrato com a Columbia como leader. Aqui toca standards em três sessões com 21, 27 e 29 anos.

Jazz Standards Vol.102 Arturo Sandoval

Arturo Sandoval nasceu em Cuba em 1949. Começou na sua terra natal nos anos 70 e o seu primeiro grande salto ocorreu em 1977, quando conheceu e tocou com Dizzy Gillespie. Embora autorizado a sair de Cuba uma vez por outra para tocar no estrangeiro, só em 1990 conseguiu deixar definitivamente Cuba levando consigo a família. Sandoval radicou-se na Florida e tem vindo a gravar com alguma regularidade. Aqui toca standards em duas sessões, com uma big band e com um quinteto.

Jazz Standards Vol.101 Barney Wilen

Barney Wilen (1937-1996) nasceu em Paris, filho de um americano e de uma francesa. Cedo se dedicou à música e se integrou na cena jazz de Paris, tocando com Bud Powell, Benny Golson, Miles Davis e J. J. Johnson. Foi com Davis que tocou na banda sonora do filme “Ascensor para o cadafalso” e posteriormente com Monk e Blakey na do filme “Ligações perigosas”. Depois de um ocaso de trinta anos em que andou por outras músicas, veio a reencontrar-se com o jazz nos anos 90. São desta sua última fase as três sessões onde o apresentamos a tocar standards
