Booker Ervin (1930-1970) foi um tenor de som original e distinto e vida curta. Começou na década de 50 com Ernie Fields e Charles Mingus. Na década seguinte estabeleceu-se com o seu próprio agrupamento e são dos anos 60 as três sessões com que ilustramos a sua prestação em standards. Morreu aos 40 anos, vítima duma doença renal.
