Guy Mitchell começou como Al Cernik, vocalista na orquestra de Carmen Cavallaro, nos finais dos anos 40. Foi contudo nos anos 50 que se impôs, sempre acompanhado pela orquestra de Mitch Miller, alcançado por duas vezes nos EUA e quatro no UK o nº1 da tabela de vendas. Mitchell destacava-se pelo seu estilo descontraído e contagiante de boa disposição.
